FIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least 17 Taliban insurgents have been killed and five others injured as a result of an airstrike and a clash in northeastern Badakhshan province, the army said on Saturday.
The 217th Pamir Military Corps said: “Three militants loyal to Ihrarullah were killed and five others wounded in an airstrike in Nesai district.”
A statement from the ANA corps said two hideouts, weapons and ammunition belonging to the rebels were destroyed in the raid.
According to another report, 14 Taliban were killed as a result of clash in limits of the 8th police district of Faizabad — the provincial capital.
Police spokesman Nisarullah Rohani said: “The militants stormed security check-posts in Kar Saeed area. As security forces returned fire,, 14 rebels were killed.”
He said the security forces also suffered casualties. However, the police spokesman did did not provide specific number. Pajhwok tried to contact Taliban for comment but failed.
