KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): NATO’s Resolute Support Mission commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller on Thursday said the world must reduce it.

Gen. Miller said this while meeting local officials of southern Kandahar province here. Chief of Army Staff Gen. Mohammad Yasin Zia, Acting Minister of Interior Massoud Andrabi and a number of other officials accompanied Miller.

Gen. Miller told the gathering there was good coordination among Kandahar’s military officials under Kandahar Governor Hayatullah Hayat.

About escalation of violence by the Taliban, the US general said although the security forces were defending well, the Taliban had stepped up their attacks.

He said the entire world was watching the ongoing situation and that violence should be reduced in Afghanistan.

The US forces in a statement said Gen. Miller talked about security situation in Kandahar and also discussed the security situation around the country.

The general said violence was too high and was driving an increase in violence across the country. “The world is watching. We have an opportunity for peace, which is what the people of Afghanistan are looking for,” Miller was quoted as saying.

During the visit, Gen. Miller said they stressed and talked about the need for work amongst the security pillars and cooperation amongst them.

He said the police and army were important to people of Afghanistan who remained proud of their forces for sacrificing every single day.
