Taliban blow up major bridge in Herat

<p>HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): <a href="/en/taliban" class="glossify-link">Taliban</a> insurgents have blown up a major highway bridge in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.</p>

<p>Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants had planted four explosive devices under the bridge in Zawal district on the Herat-Kandahar highway.</p>

<p>He said the security forces defused three of the landmines but the fourth exploded before being defused, destroying part of the bridge.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the security forces recovered more than 100 kilograms of explosives in Guzra district, Farhad informed.</p>

<p>According to another report, three children were injured as a result of an explosion. He said the children were on their way home when the blast occurred.</p>

<p>Farhad blamed the Taliban for planting the landmine in the area. However, there was no immediate reaction from the militant movement. </p>
