18 dead in IS-claimed suicide bombing in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 18 people were killed and more than 57 others wounded in an Islamic State-claimed suicide bombing in Kabul on Saturday.

The bomber tried to storm the crowded education centre on Saturday evening when security guards intercepted him, the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

Tariq Arian said the attacker instead detonated his explosives outside the education centre. The official feared the toll might increase.

The big explosion occurred in the Pul-i-Khushk area of Dasht-e-Barchi, killing 18 people, the Ministry of Public Health confirmed. It said 48 others were wounded in the explosion.

Dozens of students were in their classes when the bombing happened. Several teenagers reportedly sustained injuries in the explosion.

The Islamic State terror group, meanwhile, claimed that its local IS Khorasan Province (ISKP) branch carried out the deadly attack.

With the Taliban denying their involvement, Daesh said in a statement on Telegram, it was behind the suicide bombing.
