ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Top security officials who arrived here on Sunday were of the view that there was no major security threat in southwestern Nimroz province, but residents complained against growing insecurity.

Army Chief Gen. Mohammad Yasin Zia and Abdul Sabour Qani, senior security secretary at the Ministry of Interior, arrived in Zaranj, the provincial capital, to assess the security situation.

They met with local civilian and security officials and exchanged views on security situation of the province.

“We assessed the security situation of Nimroz and found out that there is no major threat. There are some issues on which we are working to resolve them,” said Gen. Zia.

He asked residents of Nimroz to cooperate with security forces who were committed to ensuring safety and security of the people.

NiamatullahSediqi, a member of the Provincial Council, said the security situation of Nimroz deteriorated over the past two months.

Referring to the fall of security check-posts in Zaranj and some districts, he asked the visiting security officials to pay more attention to the security situation of the province.

He demanded provision of adequate weapons and equipment to security forces in the province.

Melad Ahmad, a resident of Zaran, said if proper attention was not paid to the province, a catastrophic situation could occur because crimes and incidents of insecurity were on the rise in the province.
