KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health  (MoPH) on Wednesday said 86 new Covid-19 cases surfaced in Afghanistan during the last 24 hours, pushing up the country’s overall tally to 41,814.

In a statement, MoPH said 356 people underwent tests in various laboratories across the country during the past 24 hours. At least 86 of them tested positive for the virus.

Of the fresh cases, 33 were recorded in Balkh, 13 in Baghlan, 11 in Kabul, as many in Nangarhar, five in Parwan, five in Kapisa, four in Kunduz, three in Zabul and one in Kandahar.

The ministry said nothing about the new Covid-19 cases in Herat during the period.

Mohammad Rafiq, spokesman for the Herat Public Health Department, told Pajhwok suspected cases had not been tested in the past three days due to lack of tools.

The period saw 49 patients recovering from the virus, taking the number of recoveries to 34,404, the statement added.

Four individuals died from the pandemic in the past 24 hours, pushing up the number of fatalities to 1,548.

The ministry asked people to strictly follow its health guidelines to contain the fatal disease.
