JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province have seized 275 kilograms of drugs smuggled from Pakistan, an official said on Wednesday.
One individual was detained in connection with the smuggling attempt, police spokesman Fareed Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The counter-narcotics police personnel seized the drugs from a vehicle on the outskirts of Momand Dara district late on Tuesday.
He said the narcotics had been skillfully hidden in the vehicle, whose driver had confessed to his crime.
In Pachiragam district, National Directorate of Security (NDS) agents seized explosives and prevented possible destructive activities.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok the intelligence operatives seized a depot of arms in the Landi Pachir area of the district.
The weapons included five hand grenades, 39 bullets of machine gun, 25 kilograms of explosives and other ammunition.
He said the weapons and explosives were seized from a Taliban hideout but the militants managed to flee the area.
However, the Taliban have not yet commented on the NDS raid.
