<p style="text-align: justify;">KABUL (Pajhwok): The security forces have regained control of the Maymai district of northeastern Badakhshan province as a result of an operation against the Taliban, the government claimed on Sunday.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Last week, the militants overran the district and inflicted casualties on several security personnel, including the police chief for Maymai.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said the Taliban had suffered heavy causalities. A huge quantity of weapons and ammunitions belonging to the rebels was destroyed or seized during the operations.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It said reinforcements had been sent to the district and they would not allow the insurgents to harass the district people.</p>
