KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN secretary-general has denounced Saturday’s rocket attacks in Kabul, killing at least eight civilians and wounding many more.

Local officials say the rockets were fired from small trucks, hitting several densely populated areas of the capital.

UN chief António Guterres expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

In a statement, the secretary-general underscored the urgency of ending the violence in Afghanistan.

“He hopes the Afghanistan peace negotiations can swiftly achieve a de-escalation of the conflict and cessation of attacks in order to save lives,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also extended its condolences to the bereaved.

The mission tweeted it was “deeply shocking and deplorable that civilians should be subjected to such indiscriminate attacks. Those responsible must face justice.”
