GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Religious scholars in the southeast region say the continuation of the conflict in the country is illegitimate because it is a conflict between Muslims.
The religious scholars of the zone held a huge gathering in Gardez City, the capital of Paktia province on Monday.
Maulvi Mohammad Ismail Rohani, resident of Ghazni, termed activities and fight of Afghan security forces as Jihad, saying the security forces were protecting the country’s borders, people, national and Islamic values and their support was necessary from Islamic point of view.
“Killing Muslims is illegal, but the Taliban by killing Muslims call it Jihad. Taliban! Please fear Allah’s wrath,” Ismail added.
Maulvi Shah Mohammad, head of Khost Ulema council, said the Taliban had failed to prove they were Afghans and they should prove this.
Maulvi Mohammad ArifErfan, a scholar from Logar province, said ceasefire and peace was the greatest demand of Afghans.
He added foreigners were taking advantage of the current conflict in Afghanistan.
KhwajauddinHaqbayan, chief of Paktia ulema council, said Afghans were tired of conflicts and forced to stand against those who continue this war.
The Taliban did not respond to Pajhwok about the religious scholars’ remarks.
