KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 17 people were injured in car bombing in Aino Mena area in the capital of southern Kandahar province on Wednesday.
The attack targeted 11th police district’s building at around 10:30am in the morning. A Mazda type truck was used in the bombing. Officials confirmed that six policemen were injured.
But another security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said 13 policemen and four civilians were injured in the incident.
Police spokesman Nasir Barakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News a Mazda type explosives-packed truck targeted the 11th police district center.
He said six policemen were injured and some parts of the district’s building were destroyed. Information about civilian casualties was not immediately available.
A security official, who declined to be named, said 17 individuals, including 13 policemen and four civilians were injured in the massive bombing.
Doctors in Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar city said all the injured of the blast had been evacuated to Aino Mena Hospital and only civilians who were wounded in rubbles were brought here.
Journalists were not allowed to enter the bombing site.
Mujeeb, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok the windowpanes of the nearby homes were shattered as a result of the bombing. He said one of his daughters was also injured but currently in stable condition.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
