PARUN (Pajhwok): The rural rehabilitation and development director for eastern Nuristan province has been released after spending eight days in Taliban captivity.

Eight days back, Syed Massoum Syedi was abducted by the Taliban on his way to Parun from Kunar province in the Darmalok area of Chapa Dara district.

Mohammad Syed Momand, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rural rehabilitation and development head was freed along with his driver by the Taliban following mediation by tribal elders and religious scholars.

He said the official spent eight days in militants’ captivity and that he was in good health. He has been evacuated to Nangarhar hospital.

He did not provide more details about the official’s captivity. Pajhwok tried to contact Syedi for comment but to no avail.
