PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan plans hiring a consultant to update financial and commercial aspects of the trans-Afghanistan gas pipeline.
The State Gas Systems (ISGS) is looking to appoint a firm to offer consultancy services on the commercial and financial aspect of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
The firm will also have to provide consultancy on a gas pricing mechanism and a negotiation strategy, The News International reported on Wednesday.
The TAPI gas pipeline project will carry natural gas from the Gylkynish and adjacent gas fields in Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
The intergovernmental agreement on TAPI was signed in 2010, with field-work been completed in April 2019. The first gas flow is expected in 2023-24.
The consultant will evolve a periodic pricing review mechanism in light of global and regional developments besides developing gas pricing projections based on a competitive analysis, global benchmarks, flooring and capping of benchmarks.
About three million Pakistani are awaiting gas connections, but the relevant companies have the capacity and resources to provide up to 400,000 connections annually.
