KABUL (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the parliament on Wednesday granted trust vote to three ministers-designate but denied it to two others and to the nominee to head the Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB).
A total of 242 lawmakers were present in the house and each candidate was required to collect 122 votes to get the positions.
Mohibullah Samim, minister-designate for Borders and Tribal Affairs, got 209 votes, Karima Hamid Fayabi, minister-designate for economy, got 136 votes, Ahmad Jawad Usmani, minister-designate for Public Health Ministry, 145 votes, thus qualifying for the posts.
But nominee for DAB Ajmal Ahmadi secured 72 votes, Mujeeburrahman Karimi, minister-designate for Rural Rehabilitation and Development, obtained 118 votes and Rangina Hameed, minister-designate for Education, got 114 votes, falling below the threshold.
It is worth mentioning that of the total 25 ministers-designate and heads of independent institutions, the Wolesi Jirga has granted the trust vote to 20 nominees while five others were unable to secure the vote.
The president will now introduce new nominees to the lower house to replace the rejected ministers-designate.
Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani asked the president to introduce new faces to the lower house for the vacant ministerial portfolios.
