JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A female TV journalist was gunned down along with her driver in in Jalalabad on Thursday morning, local officials said.
Malala Maiwand, working for Enikass Radio and TV in the eastern province, came under attack in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, at about 7:10am.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor, said: “On her way to office, Malala’s vehicle was sprayed with bullets. Her driver was also killed in the attack.”
Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News that unidentified gunmen opened fire on Malala’s car in the Gola-i-Arabano area in the third police district.
Zahir Adil, the Public Health Department spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok the bodies of Malala and a man had been transferred to hospital.
Meanwhile, Enikas TV also confirmed the incident on its Twitter account. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
In Kabul, the German embassy tweeted: “We strongly condemn attacks on media representatives, civil society and civilians. Such attacks must stop!”
Radio Azadi reporter Elyas Dayee was killed in a bomb attack in the southern province of Helmand in November.
