KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 10 border forces have been killed and four others wounded in a Taliban attack in Imam Sahib district of northeastern Kunduz province, officials said Monday.
Khalil Qarizada, a member of Kunduz provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban had attacked a group of border guards in Astaming village of Imam Sahib district Sunday night.
He said 10 border soldiers, including the group’s commander, Daud Hakimi, were killed and four others were wounded in the incident.
Shafiqullah, a resident of Rawza area of Imam Sahib, confirmed that a heavy clash was happened in the area last night and said security forces suffered heavy casualties.
Meanwhile, Kunduz governor’s spokesman, Esmatullah Muradi also confirmed the incident but provided no information about the casualties.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said that their fighters targeted two security posts in Astaming area of Imam Sahib district of Kunduz Sunday night.
He said that 17 Afghan soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the incident.
Conflicts between the Afghan forces and the Taliban have recently intensified in many parts of the country.
