PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least 14 security forces have been killed in a Taliban attack in northern Baghlan province.
A government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants conducted a coordinated attack on a security check-post in Dand-i-Ghor area of Pul-i-Khumri city on Tuesday night.
He said 10 policemen and four uprising forces were killed in the overnight attack.
Abdul Hakim, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok that a clash erupted between security forces and Taliban insurgents in Wazirabad area of Dand-i-Ghor on Tuesday night.
He said 14 security personnel were killed and a 15th was killed in a landmine blast today morning.
Officials of the civil hospital confirmed receiving bodies from the clash site but did not provide their specific number.
Police spokesman Ahmad JavedBasharat confirmed the overnight clash and said that number of casualties would be shared with media later on.
The Taliban confirmed the attack. The group spokesman ZabihullahMujahid said 14 government forces were killed, including three commanders, and four others were wounded.
