1 intelligence official killed, 2 injured in Jalalabad attack

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead one intelligence official and injured two others in this capital city of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, an official said.

Police were investigating the incident and have launched a manhunt for the attackers, said Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that the intelligence officials came under attack from unknown gunmen in the limits of the third security district at about 2:30pm

He said one National Directorate of Security personnel was killed and two others injured in the attack, with the assailants making their escape good.

An eyewitness, Wasim Niazi, told Pajhwok that the attacker was sitting in a rickshaw and he opened fire at the intelligence officials before fleeing the scene.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Targeted attacks have lately increased in Nangarhar and have worried local residents.
