AIHRC team visits Qatar for talks with peace teams

KABUL (Pajhwok): A delegation of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) is in Qatar for discussions on certain issues with the Taliban.

A Qatar-based source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the commission’s team was currently in Doha and had already met some representatives of the Taliban.

But the source did not provide further details about the topics that were discussed at the meetings between the two sides.

However, a credible source in AIHRC, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok their five-member delegation had been in Doha over the past few days.

The delegation, including two commissioners and three technical experts, would discuss different issues with members of Taliban’s political commission.

“The objective behind the trip is to discuss with both teams human rights-related matters, war victims and a monitoring mechanism for the commission,” the source revealed.

The official said the delegation had not yet held face-to-face talks the two teams. However, it had held preliminary meetings with technical teams.

The delegation would also meet representatives of the Qatar human right commission and other organisations in Doha.

The Taliban and government negotiating teams have so far said nothing about talks with the AIHRC delegation.
