141 new Covid-19 cases, 20 deaths in 24 hours: MoPH

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 141 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths from the infection have been recorded across the country in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday.

The ministry said 1,431 people underwent tests during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 141 people, pushing the overall tally to 50,677.

Of the fresh cases, 26 were recorded in Takhar, 14 in Kabul, 11 in Paktia, 10 each in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Khost, seven each in Kandahar, Paktika, Jawzjan and Sar-i-Pul, five in Parwan, four each in Bamyan and Badakhshan, three in Zabul, one each in Kunar and Laghman.

At least 359 individuals were recovered from the pandemic during the past 24 hours, taking the recoveries to 39,158.

The ministry said that 20 people lost their lives to the virus during the period and the total deaths reached 2,074.

The ministry has announced that the second wave of the pandemic has begun in the country and people should follow the virus preventive guidelines.
