KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of Parliament on Wednesday referred Kabul City Mayor Mohammad Dawod Sultanzoy to the Attorney General Office (AGO) and ruled his signature was no more trust-worthy.
This comes after Mayor Sultanzoy failed to appear before lawmakers citing his presence in a Cabinet meeting.
The Wolesi Jirga last Monday summoned Sultanzoy, Health Minister Ahmad JawadUsmani and Environment Protection Agency head Shah ZamanMaiwandi.
Sultanzoy’s failure to appear before the house angered lawmakers who demanded his referral to the AGO.
A day earlier, some lawmakers said Mayor Sultanzoy had committed five written violations and should be grilled by the AGO. They demanded that the mayor’s signature should be invalidated, but due to a lack of quorum, the voting did not take place and the process rescheduled for today.
Speaker Mir RahmanRahmani through a recommendation approved by 127 lawmakers referred Mayor Sultansoy to the AGO for not addressing environmental problems, illegal constructions, below standard appointments, non-implementation of uplift schemes and not attending meetings of Wolesi Jirga Commissions.
The recommendation was approved by 127 members out of total 137 lawmakers present in the house.
However, the government in the past had rejected similar suggestions from lawmakers.
