FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Local media outlets in western Ghor province on Sunday announced a three-day shutdown in protest against the assassination of journalist Bismillah Adil, asking the government to arrest those involved in the murder.

Bismillah Adil, editor-in-chief of Sada-i-Ghor local radio station, was killed by unidentified armed men in Ferozkoh city, capital of Ghor province, last Friday.

Representatives of media outlets and local journalists in Ghor attended a condolence reference for Adil and made calls for the arrest of his murderers. They suspended their activities for three days in protest.

Sayed Maroof, editor-in-chief of Sarhad local radio station, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the local media outlets would cease all their operations including covering of government news for three days to protest the negligence of officials in the murder of their colleague.

He said media representatives were accusing the government of negligence in providing security to journalists and demanded the arrest of Bismillah Adil’s killers.

Abdul Quddos Saqib, a representative of Sada-i-Ghor said, “For how long we should stay silent on these murders. If they killed Adil today, the next day they will kill me, we seriously ask the government to find the perpetrators of Adil’s murder.”

He asked the government to pay attention to security of journalists in the country’s capital and provinces.

On the other hand, security officials say they have tightened security measures for protection of journalists in Ghor.

Nik Mohammad Nikzad, Ghor deputy police chief, said they had launched an investigation to find the attackers of Bismillah Adil. He hoped the murderers of Adil would be arrested soon.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the journalist’s shooting.
