KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban, having no tangible governance plan, remain conservative and hungry for power, claims a member of the government’s negotiating team.
Abdul Hafiz Mansoor, participating in a discussion on the first round of peace negotiations and their future prospects, said the Taliban wanted to come to power.
However, the insurgent outfit did not have operational plans to govern, he said at Saturday’s discussion at the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) in Kabul.
“We should move towards an interim government while keeping the present system in place,” he proposed, stressing the need for preserving achievements of the past 20 years.
Mansoor said the next phase of the peace parleys would focus on division of power in a future government.
During three months of dialogue in Doha, the negotiator said, he had had not seen any noticeable change in Taliban’s ideology.
“If we can achieve peace with the departure of one person and the establishment of an interim government, it will not be a bad move”
The Taliban believe the role of women in the government team is just symbolic, according to Mansoor, who said: “Women’s Issues cannot be on paper only. Women must be sitting at the table.”
Women had demonstrably proved that they were adopting serious measures to defend their rights,” Mansoor insisted.
