KABUL (Pajhwok): Security cameras with modern technology would be installed in Kabul to check growing insecurity and acts of terrorism, the first vice-president said on Wednesday.

Amrullah Saleh said the project, supported by NATO’s Resolute Support Mission, would be executed at a cost of more than $100 million.

Addressing the daily 6.30am security meeting, Saleh recalled: “The last time security cameras were installed in Kabul was in 2008. Now that technology has advanced dramatically.”

The government had decided to make Kabul better than before and covered with security cameras with advanced technology.

Once the project was completed, space for terrorists and thieves would shrink considerably, the VP hoped.

“Due to fears of surprise operations by the security forces, the terrorists recently threw explosive devices in the garbage in two parts of Kabul — Rahman Baba Mina and Bagrami area.
