JALALABAD (Pajhwok): An employment-creating project and the National Food Program (NFP) worth $35.6 million were launched in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.
The projects would help create job opportunities for 30,000 people and provide food assistance to 102,000 families, officials say.
The projects were inaugurated by Nangarhar governor, Ziaul Haq Amarkhel on Tuesday.
While talking to the inauguration ceremony, Amarkhel said that the NFP would be implemented under the auspices of Jalalabad municipality that would distribute food items worth $10 million to 102,000 families.
He said that each family would receive food items including flour, ghee, rice, beans and soap worth 4,000 afghanis.
Amarkhel said the job creating project worth $25.6 million was also launched under the municipality framework that would create jobs for 30,000 people.
People would be hired for construction of roads, culverts, streams, parks and other infrastructural areas, he added.
