KABUL (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have killed son of Independent Human Rights Commission head of northern Balkh province in Mazar-e-Sharif, the provincial capital, an official said on Thursday.

Adil Shah Adil, Balkh police spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that, two days ago, Ahmad Rishad, son of Abdul Saami, head of Balkh Independent Human Rights Commission, left his home on Tuesday.

He added Ahmad Rishad’s cell phone was switched off after 12:30pm the same day and he went out of contact.

Unfortunately, police found him dead in the ninth police district of Mazar-i-Sharif city around 10pm on Wednesday night, he said.

“He was choked to death by the kidnappers,” Adil said.

He said police has launched an investigation into the case.
