Herat: Dr. Payandeh released after ransom payment

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Neurologist Dr.NazifullahPayandeh has been released by his kidnappers after payment of ransom money in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.

Mayor Abdul Hakim Tamna told Pajhwok Afghan News that Dr.NazifullahPayandeh was released from captivity and reunited with his family on Saturday morning.

He said Dr. Payandeh was released in exchange for money, but the amount of money paid was not known. He said the doctor had been tortured mentally.

Meanwhile, local sources said a large amount of money had been paid to release Dr.Payandeh.

Security and local sources confirmed the doctor’s release but they said nothing how he was released.

Dr.NazifullahPayandeh is a famous neuroscientist who was abducted 20 days ago in front of his house in Sufiabad area of the 6th district of Herat city.
