KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the type of peace that ensures a sovereign and stable Afghanistan with a domestic government.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Ashraf Ghani, in a phone call on Wednesday evening, exchanged views on the conference of NATO defence ministers, which will be held in February in Brussels.

The Presidential Palace said the two sides agreed the NATO ministerial meeting should adopt a common and coherent policy towards Afghanistan for the peace talks to achieve the desirable outcome.

Trudeau expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Afghanistan and promised his country would continue support the type of peace that ensured a sovereign and stable Afghanistan with a domestic government.

According to another report, President Ghani met US charge d’affaires Ross Wilson and NATO commander Gen. Scott Miller on Wednesday evening.

Miller briefed President Ghani on his recent trip to Doha, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

Both sides discussed the Afghan peace process, the pursuit of the Geneva Conference commitments and Afghanistan’s relations with the new US administration.
