KABUL (Pajhwok): Saudi Arabia has pledged of increasing bachelor and master scholarships for Afghan students and providing professional educational facilities for Afghans.

A statement from the Ministry of Freign Affairs (MoFA) received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the pledges were made by Saudi Arabia’s education minister, Dr. Hamd Bin Mohammad Al-Sheikh during a meeting with Afghan foreign minister, Hanif Atmar.

Atmar left to Saudi Arabia on a three-day official visit on last Tuesday.

The statement said that both sides discussed on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the education area and talked about some other key issues during the meeting.

Atmar thanked Saudi Arabia for its cooperation in various areas in Afghanistan, particularly in providing scholarships for the Afghan students and stressed on expansion of assistance in academic and technical areas in the country.

The statement said that Saudi education minister, Dr. Hamd Bin Mohammad Al-Sheikh promised of providing bachelor and master scholarships as well as professional education facilities for Afghan students.

“We are ready to cooperate in the teachers’ training and improvement of educational curriculum in Afghanistan considering to experiences and examples in the area in hand,” he said.

Both sides signed memorandum of understanding for strengthening educational cooperation among the two countries, the statement concluded.
