Check-post commander killed in Kandahar City

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A check-post commander in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province, Haji Mohammad, was killed in a gun-attack on Sunday.

The slain commander was brother of Gulalai Mohammadi, a lower house of parliament member from central Uruzgan province.

Gunmen shot and killed the commander in Simano Pul area of 12th police district on Sunday, a security source who wished anonymity told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said Haji Mohammad was commander of a check-post in 11th police district of Kandahar city.

The attackers fled, police had launched a manhunt for them, the source said.

Another source told Pajhwok Afghan News that the slain commander was brother of Gulalai Mohammadi who is currently member of the lower house or Wolesi Jirga.

Gulalai Mohammadi confirmed the murder of her brother.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the targeted assassination.

Kandahar security officials expressed their unawareness about the incident.
