PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A Pakistani Pakhtun nationalist leader has warned of a serious crisis in Afghanistan if the ongoing peace talks in Doha fail.

Awami National Party (ANP) general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain also asked US President Joe Biden to focus on the success of Afghan peace negotiations.

The ANP leader also urged the government of Pakistan to play a sincere and proactive role in making the Afghan peace process a success.

Speaking at an event in Peshawar on Sunday, Hussain said if the peace dialogue failed to yield the desired results, Afghanistan would plunge into a severe crisis.

Senior ANP leader Haider Hoti said unless peace was brought to Afghanistan, peace would continue to elude Pakistan and the region at large.

Aimal Wali Khan, provincial president of the party, called for the formation of a truth commission to look into the war on terrorism and fix responsibility.

He asked the federal government to open all trade points with Afghanistan and take steps for facilitating traders.
