MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Officials at the 50-bed Covid-19 special hospital in northern Balkh province say the incidence of coronavirus has been declining in recent days.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Dr. BaryalaiBaryalai, head of the Covid-19 hospital, called on the people to strictly follow health guidelines.

He said the number of coronavirus cases in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, had begun to fall day by day compared to a few weeks ago.

“We are ready to fight the coronavirus and fortunately the incidence is declining, which is good news,” he added.

But he warned that if people neglected health guidelines, the disease could turn danger again.

Dr.Baryalai urged people to refrain from walking in crowded places and to wear masks when walking in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

According to him, the coronavirus is spreading in crowded places and even people take it with them to their homes.

The first wave of coronavirus in Balkh had been well controlled and efforts were now being made to prevent a second wave, Baryalai informed.

“The second wave of coronavirus has started, the situation now under control, but I still insist that if people continue carelessness, the situation will get worse.”

He said the 50-bed coronavirus hospital in Balkh had all facilities and equipment required to treat patients.

According to Dr.Baryalai, there are currently 10 coronavirus patients being treated in the special hospital.

So far about 8,300 suspected patients had undergone Covid-19 tests in Balkh province, with 3,300 resting positive.

Of the positive cases, 180 patients are under treatment and the remaining have recovered.
