LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Naseema Ishazai, an ordinary woman, in southern Helmand province has generated work opportunities for 300 less fortunate women.

In an exclusive interview, Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Three hundreds less fortunate women work with me. They sew sandals, process animal skin, weave carpets and clothes to earn livelihood for their families.”

Items made by these women are sold in the market and then the women get their wages, she said.

Ishaqzai added: “Besides Lashkargah, we sent items produced in our centre to Kabul, Herat and other areas.”

She said majority of women working with her were poor and had no bread earner.

Marwa, one of the workers, told Pajhwok Afghan News that she worked for at least four hours a day.

“The work in easy, we are all happy working here to earn a piece of bread,” she said.

Haseena, another worker, said before coming to this centre she was worried what to do, but the creation of this work centre resolved her problem.

“Positive changes happened in my life after I started work here. I can resolve my economic problems myself,” she said.

Helmand Social Affairs and Work Department Head SediqullahKhaleqi said, although such activities were creative and should be encouraged but he had no information about the centre created by Ishaqzai.

“I don’t know this centre has been created here but if such activities are coordinated, it will have positive impact,” he added.
