Kunduz displaced families urgently need aid

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Internally displaced families in northern Kunduz say the government has not assisted them since they fled homes due to the on-going war in the province.

The displaced families complain they are facing a number of problems and lack of facilities and urge the government to assist them.

Sakina, a displaced woman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that her home was in Archi district but she migrated to Kunduz city owing to insecurity in the district.

“I have seven children and my husband is in jail; I have no food to eat and no proper place to live in,” she said.

Jalil, another displaced person, said there had been continuous fights in the Imam Sahib district, forcing many families to flee homes and migrate to Kunduz City. “We have not received any aid so far.”

Musa, another displaced person, said they had many times visited government and nongovernmental organizations, but no one provided them with assistance.

“The government should either provide us employment opportunities or send us assistance; It is difficult to stay in hunger,” he said.

Other displaced families expressed similar views and demanded the government should provide them with aid and shelter.

Mohammad Yousuf Ayobi, head of Kunduz provincial council, confirmed the displaced families were faced with severe economic and other problems.

He added Kunduz was a war-hit province where people were regularly displaced. He said the displaced families were struggling with numerous problems and the government must send them aid.

Mohammad KarimKarimi, Director of Natural Disaster Management of Kunduz province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 11,500 displaced families in Kunduz had been distributed aid.

“We are prepared to deliver aid to 10,000 families during this winter, so far the aid has been distributed to 7,500 families and the remaining displaced people will soon be delivered the aid,” Karimi said.

Karimi assured of transparency in the aid distribution process and said the aid would be distributed to the needy.

It is worth mentioning that families in several provinces have been displaced due to the on-going war and are in urgent need of assistance.
