KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has extended his best wishes to his Sari Lankan counterpart Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the 73rd Anniversary of the Sri Lankan Independence Day to be celebrated this week.

In his message, President Ghani said extended his sincere congratulations to the people of Sari Lanka on behalf of the people of Afghanistan on the occasion of their country’s Independence Day.

Ghani said the people of Afghanistan had firmly embraced democracy and continued to fight extremism and terrorism. “These dangerous threats not only destabilize my country but also pose a common threat to peace and stability in the whole region.”

The president said Afghanistan and Sri Lanka possessed numerous opportunities for results-driven cooperation and partnership on all issues of mutual interest and concern.

“In this light, Afghanistan appreciates our growing bilateral relations and looks forward to its further expansion to encompass all areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.”
