6 pro-government fighters killed in Herat car bombing

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Six members of a pro-government force were killed and seven others wounded when a car bomb exploded in the Kohsan district of western Herat province, security sources said on Thursday.

Governor Sayed Wahid Qatali told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened on Wednesday night when Taliban conducted a bomb attack on a check-post of pro-government fighters in Qudusabad area.

Qatali said three members of pro-government uprising were wounded as a result of the car bombing. After the blast, he added, the insurgents stormed the check-post.

However, the commando unit and other soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) arrived at the scene and the Taliban suffered casualties as a result of a counterattack, the governor said.

But a security official, who wished anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News six uprising members were killed and seven others wounded in the car bombing.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, with their spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi saying that 12 members of the pro-government force were killed and three others wounded. The attackers suffered no casualties, he concluded.
