PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Top Afghan and Pakistani diplomats are all poised to meet on the peace process in Afghanistan today (Thursday).

Members of a committee, which was constituted during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to the neighbouring country in November, are holding its maiden meeting in Islamabad.

President Ashraf Ghani’s Special Envoy for Pakistan Omar Daudzai arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday, a Pakistani newspaper quoted unnamed officials as saying.

Daily Times reported Daudzai would represent Afghanistan at the talks. Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan will lead the Pakistani delegation.

Ghani’s special envoy will also meet Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar and other officials during his three-day trip.

Russian’s Special Presidential Envoy Zamir Kabulov, US CENTCOM Commander General Kenneth F. McKenzie and Qatar’s Special Envoy Mutlaq Bin Majed Al Qahtani visited Pakistan earlier in the week.

The visiting dignitaries held talks with Pakistani leaders, including the army chief, on ways of reinvigorating the Afghan peace process.
