KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban on Sunday claimed they were sticking to their commitments in the peace deal with the US, calling the pact a practical way to peace in Afghanistan.

Attempts at finding an alternative to the agreement would scuttle peace efforts, the insurgent movement warned in a statement on the first anniversary of the Doha accord.

While asking the US to live up to its commitments, the rebel group renewed its call for the release of the remaining prisoners and lifting UN sanctions on its leaders.

Its representatives would speed up the Doha peace parleys with the government, the militant movement promised, slamming “the other side” for violating the deal.

The statement accused the Americans of continuing bombings and operations in violation of the agreement, envisaging the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan by May.

The accord, which paves the ground for the long-awaited intra-Afghan dialogue, requires the Taliban to sever ties with terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda.
