KABUL (Pajhwok): Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to three years in prison for corruption, media reported on Tuesday.
A court sentenced Sarkozy in connection with corruption and misuse of authority, AFP reported, saying the ex-president was also accused of influence peddling.
Sarkozy, who remained president from 2007 to 2012, was found guilty of trying to obtain information illegally from a senior magistrate in 2014 about an ongoing investigation into his campaign finances.
The judge ruled Sarkozy did not need to serve time in jail. He could serve the sentence by wearing an electronic bracelet at home . . .
