SHARAN (Pajwhok): Hundreds of residents of southern Paktika province on Thursday called on the Afghan government, the Taliban, and regional countries to make real efforts for bringing stability to Afghanistan.
Maulvi Abdul Qayoom, a religious cleric from Khair Kot district of Paktika who attended a gathering in Sharan, the provincial capital, said that all Afghans were brothers and they should not fight each other.
He said that the warring parties and regional countries should denounce the war and embrace the way of peace. “The Afghans are burning in flames of the conflict since last four decades and they can no longer bear this situation”, he added.
Another participant of the gathering, Malik Bahawool Khan Katawazi, said that the war was imposed on Afghans and there was need for honest efforts to end it.
He said regional countries should no longer seek their interests in the Afghan war and let Afghans live in peace.
Katawazi also said all the people of Paktika supported the government and Afghan forces, but wanted an immediate end to the ongoing violence in the country.
Paktika governor Muhibullah Samkanai said, that the Afghan government was committed to bringing peace and had made real efforts in this.
He called on people to cooperate with the government in bringing stability and peace to the war-torn country.
Gatherings of this type were held in several other provinces as well but the events did not help ease the current crisis.
