KABUL (Pajhwok): Over 90 health workers have died from coronavirus in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Friday.
Incepted in the Wuhan city of China, the respiratory virus spread world-wide, including Afghanistan, and affected over 118 million people so far.
According to the global sources, 600,000 people have died from coronavirus and around 90 million have recovered.
The public health ministry said that nearly 50,900 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the country in which 2,451 have died while 50,000 had recovered so far.
In Afghanistan, over 314,000 people have conducted coronavirus test and the positive ration among them was 18 percent.
Sixty-seven percent of people died from coronavirus are 50 to 79 years old.
Among those tested positive for the virus 67 percent are male and 33 percent are women.
Twenty-two state run laboratories are functioning in the country for coronavirus test, while health ministry is planning to operationalize at least one laboratory in every province in the coming three months.
The existing laboratories have the capacity of 8,500 tests daily and efforts were underway to enhance this capacity.
