KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has discussed the latest developments in the peace process with President Ashraf Ghani and High Council for National Reconciliation Chairman Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
“Wrapped up 2 days in #Kabul. Had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments on the peace process with President Ghani, HCNR Chair Abdullah and a wide range of other leaders, including those in civil society and advocates of women’s rights,” Khalilzad tweeted.
He was encouraged by the fact that all political figures endorsed efforts to accelerate the peace process and agreed to attend or send delegates to upcoming international engagements for a lasting political settlement and a permanent ceasefire.
Khalilzad said in his roundtable discussions with advocates of civil rights and freedom of the press, they communicated a yearning for peace and made clear that a just and durable peace meant protecting the rights of all citizens and an end for the long and vicious war.
