JALALABAD (Pajhwok): An American charity has donated medical equipment to the main regional hospital in eastern Nangarhar province to help reduce mother-child mortality rates, an official said on Monday.
Naqibullah Rahimi, spokesperson for the Public Health Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Jhpiego, a US-based charity organization, provided essential equipment.
While the exact quantity of the donated items is not disclosed, the equipment include suction machines, pulse oximeters, thermometers, nebulizers, ECG leads, oxygen blenders, gowns, and consumable materials.
The donation was officially handed over to Maulvi Aminullah Sharif, the Provincial Public Health Director, by representatives of Jhpiego.
Health officials expressed optimism, stating that the support would enhance maternal and child healthcare services in Nangarhar and significantly reduce mortality rates.
Jhpiego, founded in 1973 under Johns Hopkins University, is committed to improving healthcare in underprivileged countries worldwide.
