Poor telecom services perturb Nangarharis

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of eastern Nangarhar province are complaining about poor internet services even in the provincial capital.

On the other hand, local officials say they have shared the problem about telecom services with the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA), which has assured of improvement.

Nazifullah, a resident of Kampona areas of Jalalabad city, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one of his sons was living in a foreign country and whenever he wanted to talk with him through internet he faced connection issues.

“I am obliged to use direct call on a higher rate for talking with my son, but that too does not work properly,” he added.

Obaid Maftoon, a resident of Angoor Bagh area of Jalalabad city, said that he faced many problems while attending university lessons online in the last few months.

“Sometimes I was even forced to go to university and take study materials from there because the internet would not work,” he added.

Besides Jalalabad city, people in districts of Nangarhar province also complain about poor telecom services as only one or two telecom companies provide services in some areas.

Erfanullah, a resident of Mamla area of Khogyani district, said that only one of five telecom companies was working in their area and that provided only 2G service and poor quality phone call.

Sayed Qayum, a resident of Ghanikhel district, said that four companies were providing services in the district but none provided quality services.

Meanwhile, Nangarhar deputy governor said that they had talked with ATRA and telecom companies about improving telecom services.

Babrak Miakhel said that he talked with provincial ATRA director, Omar Mansor Ansari and telecom companies’ officials on Tuesday to resolve the problem people faced.

He said that the officials concerned assured him of improving the telecom services and reducing rates.

Pajhwok tried to contact telecom companies’ officials in east for their comment on the matter, but they refused to say anything.
