KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said the Taliban should not become a weapon of foreigners against their own people at this time because Afghans have started to accept them.

The president expressed the view during a ceremony marking Nawroz, the first day of spring and new solar year 1400.

“In Shah Allah we will get closer to peace, but there is need to be careful. Durable peace is something that brings an end to bloodshed and result in the happiness of Allah and people. A just peace is the one which is acceptable to all.”

The president said he had not come for power but came here to serve

Ghani said: “The Taliban have no justification for the ongoing war, they feel proud by saying that no attack had been carried out against foreigners then who provided you the right to attack Afghans. It is enough, come and lets accept one another, rebuild this country together and cut short the hands of foreigners.”

Referring to the Taliban, he said: “I call upon you to come and don’t become a tool of foreigners. You are Afghans don’t kill other Afghans, they accept you and you may also accept them.”

The president hoped that children would go to school without any fear to compensate the lessons they missed last year.
