KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and his Tajik counterpart have agreed on boosting bilateral cooperation in different sectors.

The agreement came at a meeting between President Ashraf Ghani and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Monday.

The two leaders exchanged views on ways of further cementing the Afghanistan-Tajikistan relations, a statement from Ghani’s office said.

The Tajik president said: “Cooperation and relations between the two countries are based on the principle of brotherhood and on our being neighbours.”

Ghani said there Afghanistan and Tajikistan had a commonality of interests. “We want the border between the two countries to change into a border of cooperation and harmony.”

Also on Monday, officials from both countries signed five documents of cooperation. The accords were inked after the Ghani’s meeting with Rahmon.

Ghani also met Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda and discussed the strengthening of bilateral; ties, the Presidential Palace in Kabul said.

Ghani was awarded an honorary doctorate by Tajikistan National University, where delivered a speech and underlined cooperation between the two countries.
