PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Five workers have been killed as a result of an explosion in a coalmine in the Nahrain district of northern Baghlan province, an official said on Wednesday.
Najibullah, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News an explosion took place in the coalmine located in Chinar area on Tuesday.
He said five coalminers were killed in the blast. “Residents are trying to pull out the victims’ bodies. So fat, they have retrieved only two bodies from the mine.”
Azizullah Gharwal, spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, confirmed to Pajhwok the killing of five individuals in the Chinar coalmine.
He blamed the men for wilfully extracting coal from the mine. Non-professional digging led to the collapse of a part of the mine, killing the workers, he added.
