HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): At least three security personnel have been killed as a result of a car bomb attack on a security check-post in Zinda Jan district of western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.

Governor Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali said an explosives-packed vehicle hit the check-post in Bazarak area before an assault from three directions at around 10:00pm

He added three security personnel were killed in the overnight attack in the area, where reinforcements were sent. They recaptured the check-post from the militants.

The governor added the insurgents also conducted attacks in Chesht, Oba, Zinda Jan, Kashk-i-Kohna, Koh Zor and Gulran districts. However, the security forces suffered no casualties.

The insurgents also suffered heavy casualties in the engagement, according to the governor, who did not give specific figures.
