Ghee price down, gold, US dollar value up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The price of cooking oil has dipped while that of sugar and gold has increased as well as the US dollar value also jumped against Afghanis during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Zamari Safi, head of Food Traders Union in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the wholesale price of a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil decreased from from 1,750 Afghanis to 1,630 Afghanis this week.

However, he said that the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Indian sugar increased from 2,210afs to 2,230afs.

Safi said that the price of 24kg of Pakistani rice was 2,180afs, 49kg of Kazakhstani flour 1,780afs, a kilogram of African black tea 330afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea 280afs, the same rates of last week’s.

Hamed Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market in Kabul, said a 49kg bag of Kazakhstani flour cost 1,800afs, a 49kg sack of Indian sugar 2,250afs and a 24kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,200afs.

A 16 liters tin of Malaysian ghee cost 1,650afs, one kilogram of Indonesian green tea 300afs and the same quantity of African black tea 350afs, he said.

Mohamad Javid, a jeweler in the Lycee Mariam area of Kabul, told Pajhwok that the price of one gram of Arabian gold rose from 3,600afs to 3,650afs and the same quantity of Russian gold from 2,800afs to 3,110afs.

Fuel prices also remain steady.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta area of Kabul said the price of one kilogram of the commodity stood at 60afs.

A worker of Hashemi Fuel Station in Taimani area said the price of one liter of petrol was 46afs and the same quantity of diesel 48afs.

Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange Service in Kabul, said one US dollar accounted for 77.60afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 499afs, against last week’s 77.30afs and 498afs.
