Ministry rejects airstrike on Mes Aynak engineers as false rumors

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum on Saturday rejected as false rumors about an airstrike on Chinese engineers working at Mes Aynak copper mine.

Some netizens have been claiming since yesterday that an air attack targeted Chinese engineers at Mes Aynak Mine in central Logar province, killing some Chinese and Afghan engineers.

However, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said: “Recently, rumors are being spread on social media by the enemies of the country that there has been an aerial attack on engineers of Mes Aynak mine in Logar province. This is not true.”

The Mes Aynak Mine is estimated to contain more than 11 million tons of copper.

A 30-year mining contract was signed with a Chinese company in 2008.
